Our class is
a very lucky class. The class has an art table and 3 GIANT
TABLES. Library corner, a couch and the last of all can you guess…
They are as fat as a sumo wrestler, they have the name Swiss in them, they
remind me of Swiss cheese, they also have the rubber taste, (not that I’ve
tasted one of them) blah, disgusting!! Now back to my story what is
it? If you want to know here it is SWISS BALLS! I know its glorious isn’t it.
But we don’t use them for getting abs or for a gym, we sit on them. Then back,
back to the story now moving on we’re moving we’re moving.
So here we go, chick, chicks
come here chicks can you guess what I’m on about? Those fluttery thing that go bock, bock, book,
those things yes I’m talking about chickens, food scrap eating, feather pecking
chickens. They live in a small luxurious cave like coop (except without a
roof). Names are so far are, Sugar, Caramel, Honey, Sapphire and Brave but I
don’t have not a clue what the black chickens are named, we will find out soon
enough. Egg 1 egg 2 egg 3 egg 4, eggs every day, before you know it…………it’s
raining eggs (not literally).
We grow plants like sugar cane (beware its sharp!),
I’m not sure what the other plants are, but they must be beautiful or nice
enough to get in the garden.
Anja runs a program called enviro thinkers. They
run all sorts of things. Here are all of the things they do: ICT (information
computer technology), shop/market, art, music and engineering.
Every day we write in our journals we write
for ten boring minutes but it turns out to be a good ten minutes. There’s a
very small number of children that come up to speak and share their story,
maybe some people’s writing is too precious to share. I share as much as I can so
do a few people. Gradually the numbers will get bigger and bigger (I hope).
There is a Rongoa
garden it’s known as the outdoor classroom, there is a big thick chalk board
(it’s so horrid if you think about nails scraping down a blackboard). Out at
the classroom it’s really nice, nice fresh air up my nostrils it’s a nice smell
of native plants and fresh air mixed, don’t forget about the air through your
hair!
I should stop talking about my feelings this
is all about you reader.
Next subject we are studying short silent
movies this term we are making a short silent movie about the chickens in their
new coop (they were moved to their new coop this year).
We have a
few people doing choir, only practises happen every two to three weeks. As well
as that a crazy (as she calls herself) teacher comes with it.
We send runners with big bulky watering cans
(HEAVY) to run along a line of fruit trees on the other side of our massive
field. Talking about our field there are two goal posts they are pretty big in
my opinion. So where were we oh yes…they pour water on each fruit tree, there
are: peach, apple, feijoa, pear, grapes, banana and passion fruit.
We started doing a wacky roll at the start of
the year. When my name is called I call
the next person on the list, but if that person is not there the teacher
crosses out that person and calls the next (just a SHORT example).
We also have
a picture of a waka and everyone has a photo taken in a rowing pose to put up
on the waka. We made a coat of arms for our paddle ends and rolled up paper
really hard for the stick you hold onto.
Up above that there is a treaty (class
treaty), this treaty has different things on it such as KIA KAHA! (Be Strong),
listen when other people are talking, keep your hands to yourself and that’s
all I remember of it.
There’s an extremely
fun game we play it’s called the Name Game, you call out someone’s name and run
at them, they must react fast and call another person’s name and run at them
before you get to them. If you do get to
them first they must sit down, it just goes on and on till the games stops or everyone
is sitting on the ground, except the one winner. We have sports on Tuesdays
every two weeks. The guy who takes us is called Simon.
When we do
enviro thinkers, a lady called Hayley comes in to do art with the rest of the
class. I don’t know anything about what they are doing so I can’t say anything
about it because I’m always at enviro thinkers the day she comes in. When we
come out of enviro thinkers I have a look what they have been doing I always
think the same thing “absolutely beautiful”.
A few of the
children in our class have P.E gear
(shirt, shorts) they are dark green very dark, quite shiny too. I’ve got to say
I forgot to mention that we have the luckiest and best also talented teacher in
the school, she is AWESOME!
She also
teaches us swimming in the pool, she is really good at it because she studied
swimming for a whole year in Germany. It’s quite unusual that you have German
accented teacher in your class.
On Thursday 6th March we had a
junior triathlon with our buddy class our class is room 19 (they are so cute).
Our topic
this term is how can we build something of value. It’s interesting what Anja
comes up with.
We all have
done well in maths, everyone has got good marks in all areas of maths. Everyone
in the class has a duty. Mine is opening windows and other jobs are eg. Runner,
handing out books, cloak bay monitor and landfill to the rubbish bin, to name a
few.
We have a
little veggie patch just next to the chickens, there are little scarecrows that
people have made in past years. There is
also a worm bin next to the chickens in an old bath. Worms hate citrus fruit
meat and bread but chickens will only eat the meat and bread they also hate
citrus fruit.
Tune in next
term folks for an update
